It is rare to find a farm that doesn't have wild pigeons located somewhere around its outbuildings and barns. Pigeons are a rather annoying bird to farmers, mainly due to the messy droppings, molted feathers, loud cooing and ability to reproduce.

The purchase of a Patigonian Conure named Farley in 1990 inspired the name "Green Pigeon Wool Company" and has been quite the experience. Farley is the largest of the Conures ranging 19-22 inches in length. She sports a blend of drab green body feathers, gray chest, blue flight feathers, red legs and orange underside. Although Farley is demanding and exceptionally loud, she is also very loving, forgiving and a wonderful companion.

Conures have the ability to talk; however, they rarely do. Farley does say a few things but seems to favor the crows loud "caw" or a pigeon's softer "coo", which begs for a shoulder ride or head scratch depending upon her mood. Patigonian Conures are cliff dwellers, hunted as a game bird and considered a delicacy in their native land. Due to the nature of the beast, Farley's nickname became "Green Pigeon", hosting the joke of an evening meal consisting of pigeon potpie!

The Legend
Legend says that a shepherd, on whose farm a Green Pigeon lives in the barn rafters, will have luscious green pastures in which to graze his flock, a prosperous wool crop and healthy, strong newborn lambs. The cooing of the Green Pigeon helps the young lambs stay calm should they stray from the rest of the flock. With wing beating and rafter pacing, they lead the lambs back to the security of the barn area and their mothers.
