| My name is Vickie Alber, alias "Sheep Lady". I have been hand spinning since 1981 and hand weaving nigh on 12 years. My experience with sheep began 21 years ago with the Christmas gift of two crossbred bottle babies. | Living on a 200 acre farm, which houses 80 head of sheep, requires a lot of time and hard work. My sheep are part of the family, most have names and I can recognize who is bellowing from the house. Since no fences encase the farm, the sheep are allowed to free roam during the day when I am home, shut only in the barn area during evening hours or during my absence. Logic said if you spin, you need to learn how to weave. 6 spinning wheels and 5 looms later..... Hard work, high standards, and quality go into each item that is a product of the farm. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I am one of those people who didn't care for Border Collies, found them unattractive and sneaky. With the loss of my 18 year old Cardigan Welch Corgi, I was given my first Border Collie (Payne - black and white). After a few years of training under her collar, it was like having a hired hand on the farm. I no longer needed to corral the sheep myself. Life was wonderful and getting easier thanks to a Border Collie. Payne received her name because she broke my heart as a pup and dying will do so again. The second Border Collie (Never - red and white) came along three years later. For someone who wouldn't be caught with a Border Collie, I have to admit they sure make raising and handling sheep much easier with the three of us working together as a team. I don't know how I'd manage without them anymore. Never say Never - you just might end up with a dog by that name! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
